Motivation

I looked out the window and what did I see? Twiggy and Spotz in the mulberry tree.

Why did Twiggy and her daughter climb the tree? Look at the upper left. Do you see two birds very close together? Spotz sees them. That must be what motivated the cats.

The two mockingbirds flying around and around the tree. They're staying very close to each other. Twiggy leaves, but Spotz climbs higher for a better look.

Spotz sees the birds on the ground. They're mating! (Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of this.)

Spotz decides to go down after them.

By the time she gets halfway down the tree, the birds have flown somewhere else.

What motivated the mockingbirds to mate in early January?
